Protect your business against cyberattacks

Cyberattacks affect organisations of every size. The question is not whether you will become a target, but when. A structured approach reduces the likelihood of an incident and limits the impact if one occurs. That assurance makes preparation more valuable than hoping the organisation will remain outside an attacker's scope.

Explanation

Effective protection is layered. It combines prevention, detection and response: prevent what can be prevented, quickly identify what still gets through and respond in a controlled manner to limit damage. No measure works in isolation. Prevention reduces likelihood, detection shortens the time an attacker remains unnoticed and response determines the ultimate impact.

Risk

The most common attacks remain phishing, ransomware and the misuse of leaked credentials. They often succeed because basic controls are missing: delayed updates, weak passwords without MFA, absent backups or insufficient visibility into network activity. An incident frequently starts small, with one stolen password or click, and grows because the following steps are not detected.

Points to check

  • Timely patching and up-to-date systems.
  • MFA and a strong password policy.
  • Tested backups and a recovery plan.
  • Network visibility through logging and monitoring.
  • Security awareness among employees.

Approach

Establish the security basics, add detection and response through monitoring or a SOC, and prepare an incident response plan. Define roles and steps before an incident so responsibilities remain clear under pressure. Then validate the complete set of controls with a pentest and, where relevant, a phishing simulation. This confirms not only that measures exist, but that they work.

Conclusion

Protection against cyberattacks is not a one-off project but a continuous process. Organisations that maintain strong fundamentals and test them regularly significantly reduce both the likelihood and impact of an attack. This shifts the organisation from reacting to incidents to controlling them.
